A noise rock with delicate dissonant arpeggios, rhythmic strokes in slow motion and enveloping glimpses of distortion. Intimate and hypnotic, it slides slowly into the void of a loneliness without alternatives. It takes your breath away as summer sultriness, it isolates and envelops you as autumn fog, it hypnotizes you as the lights of a metropolis watched through a car window running on a wet road. From that basement a desolate, disillusioned, jaded music comes out. In a Brooklyn basement Codeine record their debut album. I'd recommend buying a cd copy and just streaming the bonus tracks (which are also great). As usual the snakes are out and trying to charge $150+ for it. It's really a bummer that this is out of print, as it really should only cost you about $25 at the most, as I believe it used to be $22 directly from Numero. Second copy was warped, but only slightly, so I called it good enough.

The first copy I received was too warped to play and so numero group sent me another and even let me keep the warped one which was cool. In terms of quality, it's a great reissue, with solid but flawed packaging (looking at you cd slot). Speaking of huge noise, this vinyl reissue sounds FAT AS HELL!!! Absolutely astounding how much heavier it sounds than cd or digital copies, but maybe that's just my setup idk. I thought this album was really boring when I first heard it but it grew and grew as I came to notice all the fine details of the tracks, and get lost in the huge noise. I listened to this more than any other album in 2020, and wow it was fitting for that year. The phrase 'frigid stars' is taken from a line in the song 'Crap Rap 2' by The Fall from their 1979 album Live at the Witch Trials.This is the greatest 'slowcore' album of all-time. The song title was the inspiration for their band name. 'Cave-In' has been covered by rock band Cave In and appears on their compilation album Anomalies, Vol. This edition also placed '3 Angels' to the fourth track on the album.

Park is featured on the song 'Summer Dresses', which can be found on the 2012 expanded re-issue by the label The Numero Group. Park did not record the track himself until 1992, with new band Seam. 'New Year's' is a cover version of a track co-written by Bitch Magnet singer Sooyoung Park. It was chosen by Pitchfork in 2008 as one of the 20 best Sub Pop albums. The album was released to generally positive reviews and is regarded as being one of the pioneering albums in the slowcore and sadcore genres.

It was released in August 1990 on Glitterhouse in Europe and in Spring 1991 on Sub Pop in the US. Frigid Stars LP is the debut album by American indie rock band Codeine.
